CORE ANSWER

Research on Tirzepatide, Retatrutide and Semaglutide addresses different questions. Before comparing findings, identify what each study tested, in which setting and against which comparator. A receptor description, a clinical outcome and a batch test answer different questions.

01

Start with the research question

Write one sentence describing the question you want the paper to answer. Is it about receptor activity, an outcome in a defined study population, or the analytical characteristics of a material? Keep laboratory experiments and human trials separate in your notes. A clinical finding does not establish that a research vial has the same identity, composition or performance as the preparation used in that trial.

02

Use the same reading checklist for each paper

  • Setting and population: Was the work performed in cells, animals or humans? Which inclusion and exclusion criteria matter?
  • Material and protocol: What preparation and experimental conditions were actually studied?
  • Comparator and design: Was the comparison against placebo, another compound or a control condition? Was allocation randomized and was the study blinded?
  • Endpoint and timing: What was the primary outcome, in which units, and when was it measured? Keep secondary and exploratory findings labelled separately.
  • Uncertainty and limitations: Read confidence intervals, missing-data methods, discontinuations, adverse findings and the authors’ limitations. Record funding and relevant conflicts.
  • Scope: Write what the result supports and what remains unanswered.
03

A direct comparison and a separate trial answer different questions

SURMOUNT-5, published in 2025, directly compared Tirzepatide and Semaglutide in a randomized, open-label study of adults with obesity without type 2 diabetes. Its primary endpoint was assessed at 72 weeks. [1]

The 2023 Retatrutide phase 2 trial used a double-blind, placebo-controlled design. Its primary body-weight endpoint was at 24 weeks, with additional outcomes at 48 weeks. It did not directly compare Retatrutide with either of the other two compounds. [2]

These examples illustrate why percentages taken from separate papers should not be treated as a head-to-head ranking. A different comparator, population, protocol or measurement time changes the question being answered. They are study-design examples, not a complete review of the current literature.

04

Keep study evidence and batch evidence separate

A publication helps assess a scientific claim under its study conditions. A batch record and its underlying analytical reports help assess a specific material. Neither replaces the other. Receptor count alone is not an evidence-based ranking of research suitability.

For your reading notes, finish with: “This study supports ___ under ___ conditions; it does not establish ___.” Then consult the relevant compound evidence brief and, for material verification, the existing COA and batch-verification guides. This guide concerns research interpretation, not treatment selection or administration.

KEY PRINCIPLE

Compare the question, study design and limitations before comparing results. Study evidence and batch evidence do not replace each other.
