Review contents

THAI BIO LABS scientific assessment

Evidence in context.

Key takeaways
  • A large sepsis trial reported a null primary result. [1]
  • Biological identity and clinical effectiveness are separate questions.

Thymosin Alpha-1 has human clinical research, but a broad positive immune label would conceal important negative findings. The large TESTS sepsis trial did not show a clear reduction in its primary mortality outcome. [1]

Research overview

What the published record is evaluating.

Thymosin Alpha-1 has a defined 28-residue sequence. Characterising that sequence answers an identity question; it does not establish efficacy in every immune-related condition. [2]

Selected studies

Findings and their limits.

TESTS was a multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial in 1,106 adults with sepsis. Its modified intention-to-treat analysis included 1,089 participants. Mortality at 28 days was 23.4% with thymosin α1 and 24.1% with placebo. The published correction of 30 May 2025 updates the primary-outcome hazard ratio to 0.97 (95% confidence interval 0.76–1.24); the original indexed abstract retains the earlier figures. [1][3]

The investigators concluded there was no clear mortality benefit overall. Subgroup findings do not overturn that primary result. Evidence in sepsis must also remain separate from hepatitis, oncology or other immune-research questions not assessed in this selected summary. [1]

Primary research areas
  • Sepsis mortality in a randomised trial
  • Sequence identity

Evidence quality

Strengths and limitations, shown together.

Strengths
  • A large blinded multicentre trial permits a direct assessment of the prespecified mortality endpoint. [1]
Current limitations
  • A null finding is not proof of equivalence or proof that no subgroup could ever benefit.
  • Assess each indication separately; a result in one setting does not establish another.

Safety & tolerability evidence

Published safety context.

No statistically significant safety-outcome difference was reported in TESTS. That finding remains specific to its population and follow-up and does not establish universal safety. [1]

Scientific outlook

Where the evidence may develop next.

A future indication-specific review should reconcile the highest-quality controlled trials with smaller studies and prespecified subgroup hypotheses.

INTERPRETATION FRAMEWORK

Different records. Different questions.

Three connected layers help interpret the evidence. They answer different questions and cannot substitute for one another.

Narrative Review

What the published scientific record reports, including its scope, findings and limitations.

Evidence Index

A structured reading framework. For metabolic peptides, it also preserves the original dated editorial scores and component breakdowns.

Batch Record

Analytical identity and other lot-specific documentation for a THAI BIO LABS material, when published.

Use the Evidence Index to examine the research interpretation and Batch Records to review documentation for a specific lot.

Research-use boundary

Clinical literature and THAI BIO LABS research materials are not the same record.

Published studies may concern approved medicines, investigational pharmaceutical material or other controlled research preparations. THAI BIO LABS materials are supplied for laboratory research use only and are not represented as medicines or substitutes for regulated pharmaceutical products.
