THAI BIO LABS scientific assessment

Evidence in context.

Key takeaways
  • Large trials answer different endpoint questions. [1][2]
  • Population and formulation remain essential boundaries.

Selected trials cover placebo-controlled weight and cardiovascular outcomes, plus a direct comparison with tirzepatide. Each study retains its own population and endpoint. [1][2][3]

Research overview

What the published record is evaluating.

The studies concern specified pharmaceutical preparations and eligibility criteria. The clinical record must remain separate from the identity, content and release status of a research vial.

Selected studies

Findings and their limits.

STEP 1 randomised 1,961 adults with overweight or obesity, without diabetes, to semaglutide or placebo alongside lifestyle intervention for 68 weeks. The trial reported greater weight reduction with semaglutide. This result applies to the tested intervention and population, not every formulation or research material. [1]

SELECT enrolled 17,604 adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity, without diabetes. The primary cardiovascular outcome occurred in 6.5% versus 8.0% with placebo; the hazard ratio was 0.80. This is evidence in a secondary-prevention population, not proof of the same benefit in people without cardiovascular disease. [2]

SURMOUNT-5 (2025) randomised 751 adults with obesity without type 2 diabetes to tirzepatide or semaglutide in an open-label, 72-week trial. The primary endpoint was percentage weight change. Tirzepatide produced greater reduction under the tested regimens; gastrointestinal events were the most common adverse events in both groups. This is a direct comparison, unlike comparisons assembled from separate placebo-controlled studies. [3]

Primary research areas
  • Weight change in adults without diabetes
  • Cardiovascular events in established disease

Evidence quality

Strengths and limitations, shown together.

Strengths
  • STEP 1 and SELECT have placebo controls; SURMOUNT-5 supplies a randomised active-comparator study. The control group and outcome remain explicit. [1][2][3]
Current limitations
  • Do not compare results across different trials as if the studies were head-to-head comparisons.
  • This selected source set does not cover every indication, formulation or long-term question.

Safety & tolerability evidence

Published safety context.

SELECT reported permanent discontinuation due to adverse events in 16.6% with semaglutide and 8.2% with placebo. Benefit and tolerability must be read together; these trial data do not certify the safety of a supplied research material. [2]

Scientific outlook

Where the evidence may develop next.

Further updates should identify the new population, formulation and endpoint explicitly, with the full citation and safety context.

INTERPRETATION FRAMEWORK

Different records. Different questions.

Three connected layers help interpret the evidence. They answer different questions and cannot substitute for one another.

Narrative Review

What the published scientific record reports, including its scope, findings and limitations.

Evidence Index

A structured reading framework. For metabolic peptides, it also preserves the original dated editorial scores and component breakdowns.

Batch Record

Analytical identity and other lot-specific documentation for a THAI BIO LABS material, when published.

Use the Evidence Index to examine the research interpretation and Batch Records to review documentation for a specific lot.

Research-use boundary

Clinical literature and THAI BIO LABS research materials are not the same record.

Published studies may concern approved medicines, investigational pharmaceutical material or other controlled research preparations. THAI BIO LABS materials are supplied for laboratory research use only and are not represented as medicines or substitutes for regulated pharmaceutical products.
